The Cars - Live Musikladen 1979
The video is lo-fi TV. The audio is mono. And the performance is rock and roll perfection.
Rhino (bless them) released this DVD in 2000, and it’s an absolute winner. The Cars are in their peak 1979 Candy-O period, performing on the German show Musikladen. They rock the house! Their energy is great, and after listening to the albums for 27 years I really enjoyed finally seeing their personalities live on stage. Ocasek is cool, Orr is studly, Hawkes is the adorable geek, Easton is the child prodigy, and Robinson the invisible (but great) drummer.
I’m wallowing in nostalgia! What fun. I never got to see The Cars live, so this DVD will be as close as I get, since bassist/vocalist Ben Orr died in 2000 from pancreatic cancer, shortly after the band recorded an extensive interview for this DVD.
If you like The Cars at all, this DVD is a must-see. Thanks again, Rhino.

Uh…a hem….
You and I were front-row at The Meadows in 1985 for the Heartbeat City Tour. But I also almost forgot. Sounds like a great DVD. I must borrow.

Must have been a great concert because I don’t remember a thing!
